This category has five sub-categories in the drop-down menu.
Each of the first three is dedicated to one of my trilogy of novels set in Indonesia: Jakarta Shadows, Kuta Bubbles, and Lombok Flames. It’s the place where you can find out about the three books, read the first one or two chapters from each, and I can try to sell them to you while pretending to be above that kind of thing.
The fourth sub-category is Short Stories. This is where I will move the stories that have been Fiction of the Month in the LATEST category and archive them. However, as with my poems, I have been advised that I have to be careful not to make too many stories available for free because the big booksellers may remove a writer’s book from their catalogue if they feel too much of the work is available for free elsewhere.
The last sub-category is Flash Fiction. This is fairly new to me, so I have written only half a dozen flash stories so far, and at the moment I’m trying to get them published in magazines. As with poems, I’m afraid that most magazines will not publish anything which has already existed in print, and they usually interpret this to include things like blogs, websites and social media. So I’m afraid I won’t be able to include any flash fiction in this section until either a) it has been published and the rights revert to the author (me), or b) when I feel that I have banged my head against a brick wall for long enough and give up trying to get it published. I’m sorry, because I know people like reading flash fiction in the frenetic pace of the internet age: it’s a good way to spend ten minutes on the bus or subway. And I’m finding that I really love writing it – it is such a challenge to try to get as much content as possible into so few words. A fantastic discipline.
